The Superbowl is For Suckers

Hey, remember when this blog actually talked about bikes too?  Pepperidge Farm remembers.

So unless you’ve been living in a hole, or think that foot-game is more important then first ever UCI CX Worlds held on North American soil, then you know what’s going down in Louisville this weekend.

So here’s how to prep for the big weekend.

1.  Research. Watch the entirety of the 2012 UCI CX Championships and see how easily all those baby blue Belgians destroy everyone on the sand at Koksijde

2.  Learn the Language.  Christin Vardaros at CX Magazine has a break down of all the Flemish translations you’re going to need to know.  Check em out here.

Personal Favorites:

“Hi”, or “Haai”, in Dutch, means “Shark”.

It’s not cool to say the Artois in Stella Artois, but if you ask me, its not cool to mention Stella Artois in general.

3. Bookmark the stream from CX Magazine in your browser, it’ll be live and it’ll be in English.  For the first time in a while we’ll actually have a decent understanding of what’s really going on, and who’s really in the pack instead of squinting at pixelated videos.  And you’ll be able to which of the baby blue Belgians is which if they decide to lead the pack like this again this year.

4. Beer.

First you’ll need a solid Belgian beer.  There are many to choose from, Hoegaarden and Leffe are the easy choices, so don’t take the easy route.  Besides those beers are like Bud Light in Belgium, you don’t drink Bud Light do you? You are?  Go watch foot-game instead.  I would say start at the top with the Westvleteren 12, but you’re not going to find any before Saturday.  Instead, the Rochefort 10 should do the trick.  Then get something else, maybe cheaper, but still in keeping with the Belgian theme.  A winter ale will do.

5. Food.

Required foods includes Waffles and Frites and Mayo.  Anything else is cheating.

Extra! Suggested group activity: Missing out on all the hand ups at the big race, why not play hot potato with a Waffle Dollar.

Things you’ll need:

A Waffle

A Dollar

Syrup

Cover the waffle in syrup, place a dollar in it like a taco.  Play hot potato.  The person who wins, keeps the dollar and eats the waffle.  It’s a win win really.

5.  You’re getting fat from all those Waffle Dollars, so go for a ride.  While you may miss a little bit of the Saturday race, I would suggest heading to The Forks to support a local hero, Lindsay Gauld, and celebrate his accomplishment of reaching 1 Million KMs.  This man has been riding his bike since the US joined the Vietnam war in ’65, he’s the definition of a bad ass.  CycleChick has all the details right here.

That’s it.  Enjoy the race.

Oh, and Niner’s by 10.

And as an added note, keep your eyes peeled for about 15 Winnipeggers making complete drunken fools of ourselves along the course. Can’t wait!
