Aeropress goodness from down under

20120914-204142.jpg

Recently I purchased an Aeropress as a wedding gift for a friend of mine and had a hard time explaining how to use this wonderful device properly, without actually being able to show them. Of course I included a couple of my favorite recipes with the gift, and instructions to check out new recipes at brewmethods.com, but there are no longer that many good instructional videos to be found there.

And wouldn’t you know it, just when I need a video to pass along to a friend, some wonderful folks down under at Market Lane and their man Huw made a fantastic video. A great starting place for first time aeropress users.

Thanks to Parlour for the link, from their twitter feed.

I am the only coffee-drinker in my house (and at that, only have one cup at a sitting) – it’s never worth making a pot. My Aeropress lives in the drying rack next to the sink. 🙂

Yay! Another Aeropress user! I may have to get another one soon as mine is showing signs of heavy usage.

I like to consider myself somewhat of a coffee enthusiast, but I’ve never heard of Aeropress. What would you say the benefits of the Aeropress are over something like a Bodum or other french press?

The best comparisons between the Aeropress and all other types of brewers can be found at Coffee Geek.
For my part, you can get a great cup of coffee from either an Aeropress or a French Press, but the Aeropress is a little different. The brew is usually more concentrated and often more flavourful because of the shorter brewing time, which also means less bitterness. And there are fewer particles in the brew. Also, I feel you can tweak the brewing process more as you have way more options between consistency of grind, water temperature, and amount of coffee.
